I’m here in the UK catching up with loved ones. What a treat!
I’m also getting a bit of sightseeing done – around and about in my old stomping grounds. Early one morning I borrowed a bike and went for a beautiful bike ride along the river Thames to Hampton Court Palace.
Today I visited to the Tate Modern – what a marvel. Even sitting down for a quick coffee is an experience with that amazing view across the river to St Paul’s Cathedral.
Last week Mum and I took a train 1hr out of London to visit to Whitchurch silk weaving mill in Hampshire. It’s a working museum I love very much. Reminds me of when I used to work as a textile designer in a mill.
I’ve also had a bit of fun looking around the shops. I especially love the John Lewis craft department and The Hand Weavers studio.
I also managed to squeeze in a quick visit to this exhibition of the London Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers. It’s showing in the underground crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields church – which is a precious haven right in the middle of busy Trafalgar Square. The works on display are stunning and inspiring (sorry, I didn’t take pictures)
Thank you for the info on the Whitchurch Museum. Am going to London soon so will try to take it in.
